Cruzy's history dates back to Roman times, when its strategic location along ancient trade routes made it an important settlement during the Roman Empire. Archaeological excavations in the area have revealed remains of Gallo-Roman villas and necropolises, indicating significant occupation during this period3.

Medieval Development

Over the centuries, Cruzy witnessed the influence of various civilizations, including the Visigoths and Moors. The village became a fortified settlement, with remnants of ramparts and an almost circular layout still visible in its historic center

Cruzy is a Dinosaur Fossil Hotspot!

One of the most fascinating aspects of Cruzy is its rich paleontological significance. The village and its surrounding countryside are home to an important deposit of dinosaur fossils, including a unique bird fossil dating back approximately 70 million years. Excavations have revealed remarkable finds, such as:

  • A titanosaurus femur measuring 90 cm
  • Dinosaur eggs and fossilized turtle shells4
  • A cervical vertebra belonging to a bird about 1.70 meters tall, confirming the presence of birds during the dinosaur era.
