The Passa Païs (pronounced "Passo Païs"), which means "Passe-Pays" in Occitan, the Haut-Languedoc greenway crosses the watershed line between Courniou-les-Grottes (Hérault) and Labastide- Rouairoux (Tarn). It is a passage from the department of Hérault to that of Tarn, from the Languedoc-Roussillon region to the Midi-Pyrénées region, from a Mediterranean climate to an Atlantic climate.
From Bédarieux to Mazamet, this greenway has been built on the old Mazamet-Bédarieux railway line. It allows you to travel up to 76 km in complete safety and without nuisance since it is prohibited to the circulation of motorised vehicles.
The trail’s name, "Passa Païs" (Occitan for "cross-country"), is hilariously literal—it splits two climate zones. One minute you’re sweating in Mediterranean heat, the next you’re shivering in Atlantic drizzle, all because of a single tunnel under the Col de la Fenille
